This commemorative button from 1947 celebrated Jackie Robinson’s historic shattering of the race barrier in professional baseball as he debuted with the MLB’s Brooklyn Dodgers that season. Until then black players were only allowed to play in the Negro leagues.
Robinson was instrumental in bringing an end to racial segregation in professional baseball and contributed significantly to the Civil Rights movement.
